Doona vs Nuna: Recall History, NHTSA Records and How the Infant Seats Differ
We checked NHTSA and CPSC records for Doona and Nuna and compared the Doona car seat and stroller with the Nuna PIPA infant seat line using the makers' own pages. No prices, no winner.
What parents should know

- Doona says it is certified for air travel and can be installed without its base (Doona).

Disclosure: how we wrote this comparison
TeachToddler has no commercial relationship with Doona or Nuna. Neither company paid for, reviewed or approved this article, and comparisons on our site are never sponsored. We did not crash-test or hands-on test these seats. Recall facts come from NHTSA documents; specs come from the makers' pages. Anything we could not confirm is marked "Not listed." We don't list prices.
Recall and investigation records
Nuna's 24C-002 notice says debris can build up in the harness adjuster on affected RAVA seats and keep the harness from locking, so it may loosen in a crash. The remedy is a free kit; Nuna's listed recall line is 1-855-686-2891 (NHTSA).
For Doona, a preliminary evaluation means NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation is gathering information. It may close with no action, move to an engineering analysis, or lead to a recall. Keep following the manual: always check that the handle is locked in the correct position for carrying and for car use.

Which fits which family (no winner)
- Lots of taxis, rideshares, flights and quick errands? An all-in-one like the Doona means no separate stroller frame to carry, which is its main appeal.
- Want a full-size stroller with a basket, or a seat to move between several strollers? A click-in infant seat such as the PIPA plus a compatible stroller may suit you better.
- Small car or tight back seat? Measure, and dry-fit the seat with its base before your due date if the store allows it.
- Either way, both are infant seats. You will need a convertible seat once your baby outgrows the label limits or the head is within 1 inch of the shell top (check your manual).
Safety rules that matter more than the brand
The AAP says all infants should ride rear-facing as long as possible, until they reach the highest weight or height their seat allows (AAP). NHTSA says the best seat is the one that fits your child, fits your vehicle, and that you will use correctly every time (NHTSA).
Car seats are not for sleep outside the car. The AAP warns that sitting devices such as car seats, strollers and swings are not recommended for routine sleep, and a baby who falls asleep in one should be moved to a firm, flat surface when you arrive (AAP). This matters with travel-system seats like the Doona, since it is easy to keep a sleeping baby in the seat after a drive.
- Harness straps at or below the shoulders for rear-facing seats; chest clip at armpit level.
- No bulky coats under the harness. Put blankets over the buckled straps instead.
- Replace any seat that has been in a moderate or severe crash, per the maker.
- Check the expiration date on the seat label.
