Light-Up Toy Recalls 2026: Finger Lights and Button Batteries
Every 2026 CPSC recall of children's light-up toys we found for button or coin battery hazards, including finger lights, Halloween light-up rings and costumes, and what Reese's Law requires.
What parents should know
- Finger lights are the largest category of 2026 light-up toy battery recalls.
- Halloween items recalled: light-up princess costumes, light-up rings, a pumpkin carving kit.
- Reese's Law requires child-resistant battery compartments and warnings.
- A swallowed button battery can cause serious burns in as little as 2 hours (Poison Control).
- Honey can be given on the way to the ER in some cases (age 1+, swallowed within 12 hours); don't delay care.
How we built this list
We pulled 2026 CPSC recalls citing battery ingestion and kept toys and products marketed to children (light-up toys, costumes, party favors, shoes, kids' toothbrush boxes and playsets) as of October 24, 2026. We left out adult items such as bike lights, tea lights and loose batteries; search CPSC.gov/Recalls for those. Data are quoted from each notice; prices are removed.
What Reese's Law requires
Reese's Law led to a mandatory CPSC standard (16 CFR 1263) for consumer products that contain button cell or coin batteries. Battery compartments must need a tool or at least two independent, simultaneous hand movements to open, and products and packaging need warnings. It became effective October 23, 2023, with enforcement discretion through March 19, 2024. Toys are covered separately under the toy standard in 16 CFR 1250 (CPSC FAQ). Many 2026 recalls say the batteries are too easy to reach or the product lacks required warnings.

Halloween and party-season checklist
- Check light-up rings, glasses, headbands, finger lights and costume lights from party packs against the table.
- Try the battery door: if it opens without a screwdriver, or with one simple motion, keep the item away from young children.
- Tape over loose compartments only as a stopgap, and throw away items that pop open.
- Store spare and used coin batteries locked away; dispose of dead ones promptly.
- Count light-up favors after trick-or-treating and parties. See baby Halloween safety.
